Supporting more students in the DR
Recently, COPA has extended its work to help provide classroom resources and teacher training in other local schools and this has been a great success and welcomed by the school staff and by the communities (referred to as “Partnership Schools” as opposed to our own “COPA Schools”). The help that partnership schools receive differs in that COPA does not provide the buildings nor recruit the teachers or other members of staff.
Initially the funding of the partnership schools project came from a very generous donation from a Guernsey organisation. This money is now running out and therfore, the concept of Class Sponsorship has been introduced whereby several individual sponsors would be sponsors of a whole class and would each have the option to either follow that group of children through the school or to sponsor the same year group each year.
Under this scheme each sponsor will receive an annual class photograph and a report or examples of work from the class twice a year. They will also receive the regular COPA newsletter and annual report. The sponsorship amount is the same as for child sponsorship at £6 per month or £72 per year. We will, of course, continue the Child Sponsorship programme for the two COPA schools but may in future add class sponsorship as an option for those who may prefer it.
